Employee Spotlight:  Suhasini Sheela, TRiNDS Data Manager

All of us at TRiNDS come to work every day committed to conducting the best quality rare disease and neuromuscular research. Today we’d like to introduce Suhasini Sheela, Data Manager in TRiNDS Data Management. We sat down with Suhasini to learn more about her and her work.

How did you come to work in clinical research?

Suhasini: I graduated from Wright State University, Dayton in 2017 with a master’s degree in Pharmacology and Toxicology. While at WSU, I worked on academic research projects focused on nanoparticles and their effects on human cells. I always wanted to be a part of the clinical research world because of the impact it has on millions of lives and the role it plays in drug development. After graduation, I joined TRiNDS team as a Clinical Research Data Manager.

What does your typical day look like at TRiNDS?

Suhasini: At TRiNDS, I work on a post-marketing clinical trial. As a lead data manager of this clinical trial, I handle trial data of more than 200 participants enrolled in more than 50 overseas clinical trial sites. My typical workday starts with answering questions by email from the central study team about the study database and data entry in the electronic case report forms (eCRFs). Typical tasks are reviewing clinical data, querying data inconsistencies, and creating reports in SAS for the sponsor and the overseas project management team. I also participate in meetings with the sponsor and update them on the data cleaning progress.

What are you most excited about for the future of neuromuscular research?

Suhasini: I believe that the future is very promising for this field because of the recent advances related to research and development of new therapies to treat neuromuscular disorders. The research data from the study that I work on has consistently shown delay in loss of ambulation and increase in life span in participants. Results such as these are invaluable and bring hope for study participants and their families.
